ArchiCAD BIM Technology Designed for Small Firms

Based on the industry leading Virtual Building technology of ArchiCAD 13, its features have been tailored to the needs of smaller architectural practices. ArchiCAD SE2010 contains all the tools necessary to create the Virtual Building model from which the entire architectural documentation is derived. It also provides the latest DWG-DXF and IFC 2x3 interfaces for file exchange with external applications.

Features of ArchiCAD STAR(T) Edition 2010 include:

Gradient and Image Fill Enhancements: Use transparent background for Gradient fills and deliver them accurately in various 2D formats including PDF and DWG. The DWG Translator option explodes Gradient fills to separate components (including the transparent fill background). To display surfaces more attractively in 2D views, you can now apply image fills to any Roof, Slab or Mesh as cover fill.

Improved Open GL display in 3D: Sharp contour lines and improved shading colors in 3D views using OpenGL will enhance the quality of every 3D drawing, reducing the necessity to fine-tune the images in third party graphic applications.

Intelligent “Soft” Insulation: Although fills have been around since the advent of CAD, modeling soft insulation in composite structures has been problematic. ArchiCAD SE2010’s soft insulation is the 100% solution -- not just for 2D, but for 3D documents as well.
Annotated Schedule Drawings: Door and window previews can be annotated directly in the interactive schedule window. This feature alone saves significant drafting time for the documentation team.

Improved Find & Select: The Find & Select function has been enhanced with the option to assign multiple values to particular selection criteria. More complex search criteria enable more sophisticated search queries in ArchiCAD SE2010.

Improvements for Slabs and Roofs: To further refine interconnection of intelligent modeling elements in ArchiCAD SE2010, the slant angle and material of slab/roof edges can be adjusted with complete freedom to match joining elements.

Improved Object Handling: Global model view options help control the display and handling of library objects at a project level. Project specific library parts can now be saved into the ArchiCAD SE project file itself, eliminating the “missing library part” issue that occurred whenever library parts were not loaded with the project.

Worksheet Tool: Dramatically improve the design-to-production workflow. Using the Worksheet Tool, you can transform your model views into highly detailed documents, create 2D documents from scratch, or easily merge consultant data into the Virtual Building environment.
Latest DWG/DXF and IFC 2x3 I/O interface and file exchange capabilities: ArchiCAD STAR(T) Edition 2010 makes significant progress in the development of the DWG input and output. New features include filtering DWG elements by layer when importing, and improved options for saving to custom layers when exporting. The latest ArchiCAD STAR(T) edition supports the latest, IFC 2x3 protocol and enables seamless communication with a wide range of structural and energy analysis applications.

Limitations of ArchiCAD STAR(T) Edition 2010 compared to ArchiCAD 13 include:

    •    Collaboration limitations: No Teamwork / Hot Linked Modules / External Drawings / XRefs / Markup Tools / Reviewer / PMK file format support / Publisher.
    •    Modeling limitations: No Curtain Wall / Slanted (straight and curved) wall, column, beam / Profiled (straight and curved) wall, column, beam, / Profile Manager / Partial Structure Display / Oriented View.
    •    Visualization limitations: No LightWorks rendering / Sketch rendering / Align View.
    •    Performance limitation: No 64-bit version.
    •    Project Organization limitation: No License Borrowing.
Of course, if you want to take advantage of the entire range of ArchiCAD features and benefits, you can upgrade at any time to the current, full version of ArchiCAD and continue editing your previous projects with it.
